I love running, I hate running...

So today was the first day of training for the San Diego Rock 'n Roll Marathon... And while I managed to hit the 10 mile mark today, it wasn't everything I thought it would be.

Since this is the first run I've had since P.F. Chang's, I thought for sure it was going to be all sunshine and lollipops (or at least a little bit invigorating, right?)... First two miles I went out way too fast - 8:15 & 8:30! My normal pace is 9:30, so I was like WHOA!! Slow down legs!!! I knew I'd been getting antsy to get out and run, but this was ridiculous.

Around mile 3, the knee pain started up. EFF ME!!! I struggled through the rest of the run, 2 miles at a time. I had to stop every 2 miles to give my knees a stretch and a little massage to make it the next 2. Lucky for me, I can start/stop my Garmin and still get an accurate time. 10 miles, 1:35:42... Not exactly where I want to be.

Got home, and instantly popped the good ol' ice bags on for 20 minutes. Huge relief... Calling the Dr tomorrow to see what's up. Ugh!! I'm hoping it's nothing that a spiffy little brace can't fix!

  1. I start off WAY too fast when I first run after a while off. My legs get a little ahead of a me and I have to kick myself to get my brain functioning with it.
I hope your knee feels better soon. I'm going to try to run today for the first time in 10 days. I have been having TERRIBLE pains in my foot when I run. ugh.

  2. Glad to see your going to the doc. I pushed mine for 2 months (yes, I am stupid) and all it was my IT band. I thought it was my knees the entire time.

Im totally doing San Diego too! But I might switch to the full...because I am crazy :)

  3. Hi, I'm in Arizona too :D For some reason it's always fun to find a blog and go HEY! I'm there too! :D I hope to do P.F. Changs next year.

I just started running in January. I have always had knee problems (even not running) and I found rocktape (or kttape) helps a LOT. Silly looking but more comfortable than a brace.
